Dr. Gayathri R is working as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cyber Security and Digital Forensics, National Forensic Sciences University (NFSU), Chennai Campus. She completed her MCA and Ph.D. in Computer Science and Engineering from Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India, in 2016 and 2022, respectively. She has also completed a Postgraduate Diploma in Statistical and Research Methods from Pondicherry University, Puducherry. Her doctoral research focused on Constraint Aware Optimal Robot Path Planning using Deep Learning Models. She has expertise in environment modeling, optimal control for autonomous robotic navigation and automated obstacle detection in dynamic environments using Robot Operating System.
She previously worked as an Assistant Professor in the School of Computer Science and Engineering at Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), Chennai from June 2024 to August 2025. Prior to joining VIT, she began her academic career as Guest Faculty and later as Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer Science (AI & ML) at Rajiv Gandhi National Institute of Youth Development (RGNIYD), Institution of National Importance, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India, where she worked from December 2022 to June 2024.
She is a member of the Indian Society of Forensic Sciences (ISFS) and IEEE. Her research interests include Artificial Intelligence, Cyber Security, Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Cyber Forensics and Knowledge Representation and Reasoning. She has published more than 10 research papers in reputed International Journals with Impact Factor (IF): 4.2, 6.1, 1.4 along with multiple conference papers and two book chapters indexed in IGI Global, Taylor & Francis.
In recognition of her academic excellence, she was awarded the Postgraduate Merit Fellowship during her master's program. She later qualified the Tamil Nadu State Eligibility Test (TNSET) as well as the National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET and NTA-NET) in 2018. In 2019, she received the Senior Research Fellowship (SRF) during her Ph.D., further underscoring her strong research potential and dedication to academic distinction.
