The School of Engineering and Technology has state of the art laboratory facilities which are equipped with various sophisticated instruments for synthesis / fabrication, processing and in depth analysis purposes. These facilities are used by master’s students, research scholars and faculty members for carrying out globally competitive R & D in Forensics, Applied Sciences and Engineering.

Laboratory of Forensic Nanotechnology
Nanotechnology is multidisciplinary by nature and requires highly sophisticated tools and deep expertise. Laboratory of Forensic Nanotechnology offers extensive facilities and instruments for a broad range of nanoscience research, including nanomaterials synthesis, nanofabrication, Imaging/microscopy, and spectroscopy/characterization.

Our objectives:
  • To develop functional nanomaterials with unique optical, mechanical or thermal properties, ceramic materials, bio-inspired and bio-derived nanostructures for sensors, & devices fabrication
  • To support the safe and sustainable development of nanotechnology
  • To develop methods for the detection, identification, quantification and characterization of nanomaterials - - in forensic, food, environment pharma and a number of important technology sectors
  • To provide novel tools for forensic investigations
  • To provide the nano-enable techniques and studies the effect of nanomaterials on the environment and human health

Salient features of the facilities:
  • Nanomaterial/ Nano biomaterials synthesis and characterization
  • Surface topography and chemical analysis of nanomaterials
  • Detection of nanomaterials and nano particles in various environmental & biological metrices, and other complex matrices
  • Surface modification and nanofabrication for sensors/devices 
  • Characterization of interphase in nanocomposites
  • Interactions studies of drug/nanomedicines for biocompatibility (In vitro/In Vivo)
  • Biomolecular interaction studies, in-depth characterization of antibodies and antigens, bio-interfaces characterization
  • Advanced materials characterization for various industrial applications

Solid, wet and gas phase synthesis facilities of Nanomaterials:  A very high -end instruments are available at this school like; Parallel synthesizer, Planetary Ball Mill, Chemical Vapor Deposition system, Electrospinning unit, Spin coating system, UV/Ultrasound/Microwave synthesizer etc. for the synthesis various nanomaterials e.g. quantum dots, nanoparticles, nanotubes, nanofilms, nanomedicines and many more for interdisciplinary nanoscience and nanotechnology research. The laboratory has hosted a broad range of research investigations in nanoscience since its inception in diverse research areas, such as Nanosensors, advanced nanocomposites, efficient catalysts and high energy materials. Students and researchers can take advantage of the wealth of facilities, capabilities, and expertise.

Nanomaterials processing facilities: Nanomaterials processing facilities like; refrigerated high speed centrifuge, high speed stirrer, high temperature heat treatment furnaces, lyophilizer, rotary evaporators, probe sonicators, microwave oven, rotary shakers etc. are available at our laboratory.

Advanced characterization facilities: A wide range characterization facilities for nanomaterials available at this school like; Field emission Scanning Electron Microscope (FESEM), In-Via Raman microscope, Atomic Force Microscope (AFM), Powder X-ray diffractometer (XRD), Particle Size and Zeta Potential Analyzer, Time-correlated single photon counting (TCSPC), Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Gel electrophoresis, ELISA Reader, PCR, RT-PCR,  Gel-DOC system, Automated Smart-HPLC system, Isocratic HPLC, UV Visible-NIR spectrophotometer, Spectrofluorimetry, FT-IR with image microscope, GC-MS/MS, LC/MS/MS, ICP-OES, Fluorescence microscope, Inverted microscope etc.

Laboratory of Forensic Food Analysis
Food forensic analysis laboratory at School of Engineering and Technology is rich in all advanced technology instruments like LCMS, GCMS, Proximate Analysis instruments, Shelf life analyzer, Automatic milk testing machine, various high end stereomicroscopes, lab scale processing equipments like freeze dryer, homogenizer, baking equipments and basic chemical and biological testing of food and agri commodities. Due to facilities available in laboratory, the university also conducts external testing of food samples. The students get direct participation in such professional testing activities. Students also gets active involvement in major research projects going on in food forensics domains which are funded by various government and private agencies. The laboratory is well equipped with food testing sensor development work related facilities and the research team could develop many on spot testing solutions to handle food adulteration and food contamination cases. The speciality of work environment is that our students get opportunity to handle all high-end instrument themselves under monitoring of experts. This makes them the most skillful manpower ready to absorb any analytical laboratory later on

Food forensics laboratory of NFSU has also all facilities of nanotechnology-based applications in food products and agro commodities. The use of nanotechnology-based packaging, nanoemulsion, nanoparticles, fortified food products with nanoencapsulated micronutrients, liposome products etc. are some one the thrust area in which the laboratory is progressing due to all. Full-fledged research set up. This is one of a very few active place where nanotech based food technology application research is going on in full swing. The facilities of this laboratory helped many successful Ph.D. students and PG students to transform their career and capabilities significantly.
M. Tech. Civil Engineering (Forensic Structural Engineering) Laboratory
The Vishveswaraya Laboratory for the program M. Tech Civil Engineering (Forensic Structural Engineering) is equipped with state of art instrument facilities, such as:
Digital Compression Testing Machine (3000 kN), Universal Testing Machine (600 kN), Rebound Hammer, Ultrasonic Pulse Velocity Meter, Rebar Locator , Concrete Crack Microscope, Concrete Cover Meter with Half Cell Potentiometer, Air Entrainment Meter, Concrete Permeability Test Apparatus, Automatic Blain Apparatus, Electronic Direct Shear Apparatus, California Bearing Ratio Test Apparatus, Consolidation Apparatus, Centrifuge Extractor, Standard Tar Viscometer, Uniaxial Seismic Shake Table, Eight Channel Datalogger and Structural Design Software.
