Clinical Psychology as one of the core disciplines in the area of mental health/illness has grown significantly in the last two decades. Clinical Psychologists apply knowledge and methods from all substantive fields of bio-psychosocial sciences for promotion and maintenance of mental health of individuals. Varieties of techniques and methods derived from several branches of Psychology are used in promotion of mental health, and in prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation of mental and physical disorders/problems where psychological factors play a major role. Different methods and forms of psychological techniques are used to relieve an individual's emotional distress or any other forms of dysfunction or disability.
Thus, Clinical Psychologists play an important role for optimizing health care delivery system and there is an urgent need to train more number of professional clinical psychologists. This program is designed as the minimum essential professional qualification required for licensed clinical practice in India (Rehabilitation Council of India, 2017). The latest program framework, applicable from academic year 2017-18, builds further on the previous iterations. It is a twoyear, full-time, rigorous professional education program that can be joined after completing a M.A. or M.Sc. in Psychology from a recognized institution.
The aim of this course is to prepare the trainee to function as a qualified professional Clinical Psychologist in the areas of mental and physical health by offering Diagnostic, Therapeutic, Rehabilitative, Administrative services, and to work towards promoting the Well-being and Quality-of-life of individuals.
1. After the completion of this professional program1. Students will be able to work as qualified Clinical Psychologist in the field of Mental Health.
2. Students will be capable of diagnosing, assessing through Psychological Tests and providing appropriate Psychological Interventions to the person with Mental Health problems.
3. Students will be skillful in dealing with Child, Adult and Geriatric Cases for various Psychological problems.
4. Students will be able to develop understanding and acumen for the Researches in the field.
M.A./M. Sc. in Psychologywith minimum 55% marks or equivalent. (50% for SC/ST)

After completion of the M.Phil in Clinical Psychology course, the professional will be eligible to apply for Certificate from RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India), and can practice as a qualified Clinical Psychologist. The professional can work in various institutions/organizations/hospitals as a mental health professional. Also, such professionals can apply for teaching positions in academia and in the field of Counseling, Research & Development Organizations.
