About Program

Starting from the inception since 2013, M. Phil Forensic Psychology program is an initiative of National Forensic Sciences University (erstwhile, Gujarat Forensic Sciences University) to prepare experts in the field of Forensic Psychology, which is being conducted at this university and is the only programme of its kind in India. The field of Forensic Psychology, in its relatively short history, has now become a recognized and legitimate field of study within Psychology. Indeed, Forensic Psychology now appears to have many of the markings of an established discipline. Aim of the M. Phil. Forensic Psychology program is to impart specialized knowledge about Forensic Psychology field and its role in the Criminal Justice System and society at large. Also the program aims to develop an understanding of psychological and societal aspects of offending behaviour and the possible role of technology in it. At SFP the structure of M. Phil syllabus is designed to address the issues related with crime and justice along with providing the holistic information about the psychological as well as societal challenges emerging in legal settings. The program comprises of in-depth knowledge about the assessment of possible antecedents of offending behaviour and imparting learning in investigative techniques of crime and understanding the role of Indian Justice System through Forensic Psychological Investigation.

  • To have an extensive exposure to Hospital Setting, Forensic Investigative Tools and Community Visits/Internship at Correctional/Observation Homes/Centers
  • To render services in Rehabilitation Centers
Facilities

The School endeavors to impart education and research in Forensic Psychology and its related allied fields as well as provide diagnostics and rehabilitative services to Forensic Science Laboratories, & NGOs. It is staffed with highly experienced Forensic Experts & Professionals, who provide a wide range of services in education, research & development, in areas of Forensic Psychological Sciences. SFP works in close collaboration with Directorate of Forensic Science (DFS), Gandhinagar which is the prime Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in the State of Gujarat. Additionally, SFP from time to time conducts various Forensic Psychological Investigative training programs for the police force and judicial professionals of the country and abroad, as part of the training programs conducted by NFSU. Further, training programs are often closely supported by national agencies, especially Bureau of Police Research and Development (BPR&D), New Delhi. All Central Forensic Science Laboratories (CFSL’s) are affiliated to SFP for upgradation and upkeep.

Investigation & Research Laboratories

SFP houses state-of-the-art laboratories equipped with Neurocognitive and Forensic Investigative techniques like for instance, Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature (BEOS) Profiling, Polygraph, Layered Voice Analysis, to impart training to students, professionals and also carry out high end researches for understanding brain and behavioural modulations under experimental settings.

Learning Resource Center

Learning Resource Centre is inclusive of Computers with Internet facilities, together with a voluminous collection of both Electronic & Printed – Books, Journals, Paper Reviews and Articles in the domain of Forensic Psychology, Neuropsychology and Clinical Psychology.

Eligibility Criteria

M.A./M.Sc. degree in psychology with a minimum of 55% or equivalent marks in aggregate (50 % or equivalent marks for SC/ST and PwD category).

Placements

After completion of this program students will be ready to serve in any Forensic set-up without any pre-placement training. These Forensic setups will include, but not limited to, Central and State Forensic Science Laboratories, Industry, NGOs, Corporate and Academia.
