About Program

The School of Police Science & Security Studies, established in February 2021, is a forward looking endeavour stemming from the vision of our founder Vice Chancellor Dr. J M Vyas. One of the primary aims of the School is to impart advanced training, boost research, promote the use of technology and cultivate a scientific approach to the functions and practices of Policing. The School has been aptly named with this aim in mind as the subject matter is of a perpetual concern for the citizens and has direct relevance to the Internal Security of India.

As National Forensic Sciences University receives a confluence of insights from Forensic Science as well as Law Enforcement and Judiciary, it became evident that there is acute necessity to upgrade the traditional practices and systems of policing and security tasks through the use of modern technology. It was realized that a renewed focus in the field of Law Enforcement and Security was the need of the hour as the Police forces are destined to serve as the irreplaceable ‘first responders’ in the face of any emergency situation be it natural disasters, industrial accidents or civil unrest. Similarly, at an industrial complex, the Security Officer is mandated to be the ‘first responder’ for any incident, accident, or an attack. The police force is not only the primary organ of the Criminal Justice Delivery System but also uniquely positioned to act as a force for social change. Accordingly, the School of Police Science & Security Studies has launched an entirely new M.A. programme on Police and Security studies.

The police personnel as well as security staff require a certain level of scientific competence to execute their work successfully. As such, while they receive the requisite training at the time of induction, prior acquisition of knowledge and skills provide the graduates of M.A. (Police & Security Studies) program a distinct edge over their counterparts when they reach out to join the Police service, Law enforcement departments, Central Armed Police Forces or security set-ups in an industrial or corporate sector.
The Masters level program on Police & Security Studies covers in-depth education on Police Administration, Internal Security of India, Maintenance of Law & Order, Crime Prevention, Criminal Investigation Procedures & Laws, Criminal Justice Delivery System, Forensic Science, Criminology, Intelligence sharing, Financial Crimes, Cyber Security, Industrial Security and Disaster Management as some of the core subjects in this field. Basic subjects on security such as Critical Infrastructure Protection, Threat Assessment and Vulnerability Analysis along with specific subjects covering modern security technologies are also included within the curriculum to offer holistic expertise in Security management as well.

As such, the M.A. (Police & Security Studies) course has been created based on innumerable suggestions from the Faculty from universities within India and abroad, experienced police officers and security experts from the industry. The course is designed to encourage the non-science students to pursue career in law enforcement and security field. The Program prepares the students pre-dominantly for the Indian security environment, which gears them up for employment in the State Police organizations, CAPFs like BSF and ITBP, Coast Guard, Intelligence agencies, and Security verticals of industry in a managerial as well as leadership roles.
